Art in The Community - Centra Art Competition
March 26, 2007
Don Conroy is delighted to be involved in the second year of the Centra Art Competition.
Tips for the art competition
Look around where you live and see what inspires you. It could be church, a statue, or even an old ruin. Something unexpected might jump out at you on the main street of your town: an unusual-looking tree. Once you begin to look around you will be amazed by the hidden charms that will be revealed to you. Visit the library. Is there a relative who might have some interesting nuggets of information on the environment or the buildings?
Always carry a sketchpad, a 2B pencil and an eraser. A camera (your mobile phone) is handy too. Once you decide on what represents something special in your area do a rough sketch or take a photograph. It’s always good to do this work with friends as you can inspire each other.
When you’ve made a few rough sketches of what you wish to depict you can then work up a finished picture at your leisure. If you are drawing from a photograph try to interpret them rather reproducing it exactly.
You can use water-colour paints, pencils, crayons, markers or you could leave your picture in black and white. The main thing is to have fun!
Good Luck, Don Conroy.
